To get to the heart of music, one must begin with the heart. The heartbeat is the rhythm of all creation. No matter how still one stands and holds one's breath, there is nevertheless a rhythm, a pulse. This rhythm was and is the beginning of all music; beat out to us as we grew within our mothers; the pulse of our birthing into this life.
Dayton Edmonds danced before he walked; bounced on his mother's hip to the rhythm of the dance, accompanied by flutes, drums, rattles, whistles, and voices. Descended from singers and song carriers of the traditional Native American Caddo culture, Dayton received formal music education in high school and college, where he discovered ballads and epic songs; today, his own music tells a story. Dayton has collected story-songs, old and new, added the guitar; and now performs for churches, schools, county fairs, community festivals, Elderhostel programs, nursing homes, and camps. He is an able and experienced song leader, and in addition to voice, his instruments include guitar, and Native American flute and drum.
